hey fellas. im currently shopping around for what would essentially be a pure gaming rig, no real budget thus far - just seeing whats out there but also looking to be value orientated with a reasonably straightforward upgrade path for the future

ideally, it would be able to run the more current competitive shooters (specifically: overwatch, apex legends) in 1080p @ a constant 144 fps+ and be able to handle mmos/rpgs like ffxiv at decent video settings without cracking under the pressure of a big encounter. i have an idea of what i want so far but i've only really tossed up between the ryzen CPUs and have read that the intel CPUs are better value for money from a gaming perspective so any insight you guys can give me on that including whether or not "overclockability" is worth the extra cash would be awesome.

i would also be aiming for a black and white build inside of a white meshify C so bonus points for any recommendations that just so happen to fit that color scheme (ill also be looking to buy some cablemod products in the future just to make the build look nice) but this is what ive got so far:

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, 8 Cores, 16 Threads, 3.7Ghz/4.3Ghz, 20MB Cache, Socket AM4, Wraith Prism RGB Cooler @ $589.95 = $589.95
ASUS PRIME X470-PRO, AMD X470, DDR4-3466, Dual M.2, Aura Sync Gaming Motherboard @ $329.95 = $329.95
Corsair CMW16GX4M2C3000C15W Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3000 CL15 @ $249.95 = $249.95
NZXT Kraken X52 High-Performance 240mm RGB Liquid Cooler AM4 Ready @ $249.95 = $249.95
Corsair RMx Series RM650x V2 650W Fully Modular 80Plus Gold Power Supply @ $219.95 = $219.95
Fractal Design Meshify C TG Mid Tower - White @ $179.95 = $179.95

you'll see that this list lacks a gpu and thats because im undecided on whether i want a 2060 or if it would be better value to upgrade from my current 1060 to a used 1080, any comments on that are also appreciated. cheers!

Afternoon bisou,

I noticed that there was also no storage or operating system.

Were you just after a lose parts list or did you want a full system quoted up with assembly etc?

I personally have a 1080ti with a 2700x and it isn't bottle necked so either GPU will run happily with your CPU.

The RTX 2060 is roughly equivalent to the GTX 1070ti so card vs card maybe 5% slower than a 1080, though if the game supports DLSS it would be almost 10% faster in some cases/ resolutions.

Once I know the above information I can quote up a build/ parts list for you :)
ROG CROSSHAIR HERO
2700x@ 4.2Ghz
16GB AorusRGB@ 3200Mhz
860 Evo 500GB, 4TB HHD & 6TB HDD
GTX 1080ti Strix
S340 Elite Hyperbeast

hey man, thanks for the response.

i forgot to note that i'll be using the storage devices that are in my current rig with the new one so those won't be necessary either. for the sake of reference i've got a 500gb samsung 860 evo and a 1tb seasonic HDD and yes! i am looking to buy loose parts for self assembly at home. which card of the 3 would you most recommend? i hadn't even considered a 1070ti until you mentioned it but with my main concern being price vs performance i'm open to all the options including intel CPUs if it means ill get more gamer juice per the dollar :)

Hi bisou,

I'd go for a 2060 as it's almost exactly the same as the 1080 performance and price wise, though with the newer technologies in place and with better drivers coming out it will surpass the 1080 (you also get more variation such as the Dual version which has a black/white theme)
