HI CL Team

This could be my 3rd PC build with you guys, that means you're awesome!

I've called it a 4k build because I intend to run an HDMI cable to a 4k tv for gaming with a controller, but have added a monitor because 1) I will need one and 2) I stil intend to play FPS games with mouse and keyboard so may as well get 144hz and gsync

I'm looking at the below system, let me know if its doable, add your reccomendations and also give me a quote (you can email or private message me) - hopefully I can get a good deal as a repeat customer :)

here is what I've thrown together

UserPostedImage

Question from me

* The box will connect to my router using wifi, does this motherboard have a wifi reciever built in or do I need to add one?

* For the quote, please include in the price the building and testing of the box, loading of the Windows 10 and also please pre overclock the CPU to a reasonable number (somewhere around 4.7-5ghz on all cores)

* I'm unsure about the RAM, I want 32GB as I intend for this to be a future proof build where I can just change out the graphics card for a newer model in the future - but the frequency I'm unsure about - I've heard 3200mhz is a sweet spot, feel free to swap out the ones I added for some 3200mhz set if you can get it running at 3200mhz during the overclocking setup

* Unsure about the PSU as well, just want something thats enough to power the system with the overclocked cpu and memory

* Unsure about storage, the last build you guys did had a 512gb sata SSD and it was plenty fast, but now there are a bunch of other SSD types, it looks like a lot of people use NVMe SSD's as well but they cost a bit more, I can see the read/write speeds are better but more or less for the same money I can get a 1TB SATA SSD or a 512GB NMVe SSD, is the NVMe worth it just for games or is it better to double up the space?

* Lastly, unsure about the CPU cooling - I've put in the H115i as I've never tried water cooling before, my last build from you guys had a Noctua NHD15, however while it cooled well and was quite it was also an eyesore, its big, heavy and ugly but maybe I don't need such a big aircooler. Just need something to keep temps in check while not making too much noise, what do you reccomend?

Afternoon Naekyr,

I have quoted up the parts you are after as a fully built and tested PC system and added a Wi-Fi card so you have the capability

In terms of RAM speed 3200Mhz is definitely the sweet spot as beyond that speed would be diminishing returns for the price you are paying.

750W is enough to run your system, total power draw will likely be around the 500w region so you could upgrade the power supply if you wanted more headroom or wanted to add an additional card in the future.

Storage is an interesting one as the M.2 drives are much faster than standard SSDs though for games they don't offer too much more performance as they are hitting an engine wall.

Windows and Apps are a different story however as they both perform better on M.2s, I think meeting in the middle and having a larger SSD for the two is a good option as it will benefit both will offering decent storage size as well.

The H115 will perform as well as a D15 (big bulky air cooler) while looking a bit more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.

Either option will handle the 7700k perfectly fine.

I've left the overclocking out of the build for now as with the amount of performance within this system you could potentially opt for a high refresh rate 1440p and I wasn't too sure of you max budget for this.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts on all of this.

Thanks, looks like its going to go over budget so will need to cutback a little

1) Please change out the 3200mhz memory for standard 2400mhz DDR4 kit (still 32GB thanks)

2) Please swap out the monitor for this one instead: http://www.computerloung...entview.asp?partid=25888

3) Please add in CPU overclocking

For the cpu cooler, is the pump + fan noise of the H115i much louder than the NH-D15?

Afternoon Naekyr,

I have updated your quote for you as per your request.

In terms of noise, the Noctua cooler does actually beat the H115 as the stock fans on the H115 can be noisy when running at higher RPMs, this can be offset by setting a custom fan curve to balance temperature and noise.

We only currently have the D15s in stock as the standard D15 is not due until our next shipment, this version only has a single fan so will have slightly higher temperatures.

Morning Naekyr,

I have made all the changes you have requested, with one slight change to the Ranger extender/ Acess point which I only did to lower the price as close as I could to your desired amount.

The Netgear EX6200 is slightly slower (max output) then the TP-Link though has proven to offer a better area of coverage slightly more consistently.

I couldn't quite include all the changes for the same price, I have however gotten as close as possible to remain on budget.

let me know your thoughts.

Hi Thomas,

After doing some research I think it will be better to use a router as the wireless access point as range extender/repeaters appear to have some drawbacks such as reducing the wireless speed throughput

http://www.computerloung...entview.asp?partid=22336

have you had good feedback with this model?

If its a good model, then please swap out the range extender for that - I'm happy to pay the price difference

Once that's all good I'll put the order through thanks

If I put the order through today, whats our ETA on pickup?

Thanks

EDIT: Oh, one other request - when you're doing the building - please remove (but keep for me) the hard-drive cages, this is to improve airflow from the dual 140mm intake fans. Please also keep the packaging from the components etc thanks

Morning Naekyr,

I've heard a couple of people having issues with the R8000 slowing down after 6 months or so worth of use, this has likely been resolved in firmware updated through the router I have included in your quote is rock solid and is used by three staff members currently (including myself) as it offers impressive coverage, its Wan to Lan is also one of the highest we have.

This is a good resource to keep on hand https://www.smallnetbuil...router/bar/74-wan-to-lan

Let me know your thoughts on al lof this.

Afternoon Naekyr,

Our standard build time is 5-7 days and we are expecting a shipment of 8700ks either the end of this week/ early next week so that should fit within that time frame easily.

Here is your special order link.
