Hi all,
Had my Kraken X61 cooling 3970x for couple of years now. Recently noticed it's not cooling as well as before. Coretemps are varying upto 20*c under load with first 3 cores all going past 80*c! I've noticed this first while playing Battlefield 1. Confirmed it by running Asus Realbench 2.43 "benchmark" option. CAM setting for Kraken - Performance mode.
Core 1, 2, 3 run very hot with Core 1 being the highest. Cores 4, 5, 6 are run at normal temps even under full load. The cores never went past 75*c even while stress testing previously.
Got any clue why this is happening?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks
Saadi

Afternoon kingsaadi@gmail.com, First thing I would try as you stated you have had this cooler for several years is take it off your cooler and re-apply new thermal paste. Make sure to wipe off all excess thermal paste before applying your new paste.

Replaced stock radiator fans with Noctua industrial A14 2000rpm fans. As far as I know Noctual NTH1 doesn't have curing time but I still let it run for a couple of weeks before I took temps just to be sure. I've checked CAM to make sure it's set to run by changes of CPU temp, not LIQUID temp. Fans are set to go at 100% after 60*. Played Far Cry 4 for couple hours. Only uses first 2 cores mainly, with a little bit of core 3 but temps still hover between 75-80*, maxing out at 82*. Core 3 maxes out at 74*. Cores 1 & 2 hit 80+. These seem way to high for just gaming temps. I'm not sure why this is happening now as the problem wasn't there when I first purchased the Kraken. What to do? I would upload some screenshots for you guys to see but can't seem to find any attach image button on the forum. Cheers

Hi, If the unit is still under warranty, we can potentially looking to sending this to the manufacturer for you. In the meantime, I could only suggest contact NZXT and see if the have some form of firmware they can provide you to check with. *****UPDATE****** Just ran a quick test using CPU burn in 1.01 - 12 instances for the 3970x - ran less than a minute. Check out the temps from Real Temp GT - First 3 cores are insanely hot! Difference between lowest and highest core is 18*C!! I have submitted a ticket to NZXT regarding the issue. Still waiting for reply.. https://postimg.org/image/fguf2uvv1/

Have you remounted and pasted the cooler? just to rule out the cooler or CPU at fault.

Couple of days ago it was idling in the 40's. Now it's idling in the 50's. Also noticing the temps spiking quite a bit (especially core 1) while just browsing the web. Goes from 50*C to 70*C in a split second. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling CAM, that didn't help either. I've asked around in Asus ROG forum - guys there seem to think its the pump failing. One of the guys had same issue with unexplained rising temps while everything looked to be working fine. Coupled with the strange 'sloshing' noise the unit makes sometimes - they seem to think its the pump.
