My son changed his admin password of Dell laptop and now he can't remember it clearly. He has an urgent task in school so he asked me to help on that. I did follow the guide in this section and made a bootable USB disk. But every time I booted the laptop, the screen got black and no error message on the screen. Anyone know how to solve it? thanks

Is this a Microsoft account you login with? if so go to https://account.live.com/password/reset and reset the password.
Give it 30 mins or so, reboot the machine make sure it is on the internet and try again.

If it is a local account you will need to use 3rd party software \ techniques to reset the password, I suggest try UUkeys windows password mate, or ntpassword, ophcrack.

Hope it helps.

To get ophcrack to recover your password, you might need to purchase the rainbow tables.
If you have a windows setup media, you can boot off it and reset your local account password:

Or restore your system to the latest backup point.
