Hi
I'm looking to switch from Mac workstation to a PC workstation build. Don't want to break the bank but components need to be well made and capable of heavy work loads. I've attached a TR2 2950x build that is about my budget range (NZ$8k). Concerns are a suitable cooler for 2950x and RAM speed. Ideally I'd like ECC CL14 RAM clocked to work with standard overclocked CPU. However that seems unlikely so the next best match. I also want to run current mac internal HDD's on new machine so the case needs space for at least 4 x 3.5 mechanical drives. I'd like components that work well together especially in the applications named in the build title hence the WX9100 with the Threadripper.
I'll be running my old HP LP2275w 22" monitors. Hopefully they will work. Otherwise I'll replace.
I hope you can help.
Scott

Afternoon Due South Films, I've changed the CPU and motherboard to Intel as reading through a few forums Threadripper seems to still have a few teething issues with your desired software. Playing it safe I've opted to change the components. Let me know what your thoughts on the below quote. |
ROG CROSSHAIR HERO 2700x@ 4.2Ghz 16GB AorusRGB@ 3200Mhz 860 Evo 500GB, 4TB HHD & 6TB HDD GTX 1080ti Strix S340 Elite Hyperbeast |

Hey Thomas,
Thanks for that.
Hmmm. Only ten cores may be an issue although clock speed is good. The 12 core i9 7920x may be an option. It clocks higher than the TR1950x (but probably not the 2950x) in Puget System Resolve 14 benchmarks. If going with an Intel cpu/ Deluxe MB then I'd probably opt for a P5000 GPU. Also RAM at a faster CL and higher frequency that is compatible would be great. Also I'd like the best RAM slot config for software performance.
Also is the cooler enough for heavy work loads?
cheers
Due South

Afternoon Due South Films, I have made the requested changes and have updated the cooler to the larger D15 cooler for added performance. Four RAM sticks is the best setup for the X299 so all channels are utilised. Have a look over the below quote and let me know what you think. |

Thanks Thomas. Only a few more tweaks. I'd like to go back to the i9 7900x 10 core Unlocked CPU and swap out the Quadro P5000 with a 1080Ti Reference Edition GPU. We can also reduce the power supply to an 850w. This is to reduce initial cost until I've got the platform swap under control and tested the software/hardware responsiveness. Or we can keep the P5000 if you can match PB Tech's price of $2298.85. https://www.pbtech.co.nz/search?sf=p5000Cheers S Edited by user Wednesday, 26 September 2018 3:06:15 PM(UTC)

Here's my final spec. It comes to just over $8k in the system builder:

What sort of discount can you offer on this build?
Thanks

Hi There, I've updated your new spec. as shown above, though I've kept the Noctua D15 for better and quieter cooling performance and included the Nvidia P5000 with the requested price match.

No worries, is there anything else you'd like to change or would you simply prefer to proceed with the order?

Also the quote number has an asterix in it which may cause issues with payment fields when using ASB banking. Your account is ASB so just checking that the quote number is correct.

No worries, you can simply use O15900 as your reference, as for turnaround, our standard build times are 5-7 working days from the date of payment. If you would like your system shipped we will need to add $25.75 for delivery, bringing the total to $7,525.70.
Do you have an address you'd like this shipped to?

Hey Luke
I received my system and all apps are up and running. Just getting to know Windows (I've been a Mac user) and I've just discovered on boot up that I only have 16GB of RAM installed. The quote was for 32GB. What happened to the other 16GB???

Afternoon Scott,
I've just passed this onto our team out back to double check our stock and organise a remedy for the situation.
Are you able to confirm that there are only two sticks of RAM in your computer? |
