Hi guys

I have been given the job of modernizing the work system as the new software we need at work doesn't work on Xp

(laugh if you want)

now not a major power build (no Crysis but doom might be snuck in ) but the software guys has asked us to source the hardware and I not really happy with the quotes he given us

Now all computers need windows 10 pro

basic specs for the server he has recommended follows

Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6 3.5GHz Processor, 8MB Cache, LGA1151, 4Core/8Thread, 72W TDP
2x 16GB DDR4 2666MT/s (PC4-21300) CL19 DR x8 ECC Unbuffered DIMM 288pin (32 gb in total)
2x Intel S4500 Series 240GB 2.5in 3D NAND TLC SSD, SATA 6Gb/s, 500MB/s read 190MB/s write, 1 DWPD, Power Loss Data Protection, 5 Years Warranty, 7mm
These to run in Raid 0 for safety (flexiable in model samsung pro would be fine if cheaper)
And you guys to build install windows etc
again if you have any that will work better then tell me.

The rest we are flexible with but we would like a case that is something small and with good dust protection
This needs to run 24/7 so good airflow and cooling (maybe a aftermarket cpu Cooler) for long life

Budget at the moment from other big store (No names) is around $2,600 ish

For the workstations
We are easy but something like a Intel NUC Ultra Compact PC, Intel Core i3-7100U (or i5 version) 2.4GHz, 8GB, 120GB SSD
also quote with a 250 gb ssd extra as im trying to get the guys to future proof a little
If you guys can do something better in a small form factor then go for it.

If needed I could build the nucs doesn't look to hard.

Again all running windows 10 pro

we will need office as well but still deciding on how many licenses we will need

other stuff like screens and keyboards etc are good, we can use the old stuff as it has usb or hdmi....

sorry if I have missed anything out, Im more of a gamer s this is a learning experience for me.... which i not getting paid for...
Thanks for you help guys

Afternoon Rhysmcp,

I've quoted up the server system following your Spec guide, the motherboard choice was fairly slim so have gone with a reliable Supermicro.

I've chosen to go with a mid teir Noctua cooler as that will easily handle the CPU whilst being incredibly quiet (potential bonus if not in a different room to people)

I've gotten as close as I could to the non named store though from the parts you've provided I can make an educated guess, the extra year warranty we offer is a factor in the price.

In terms of workstations I've quoted up a NUC system to meet your needs, SSDs have gotten rather cheap lately and it is only an additional $50 to go to a 240GB model if you can sway them.

Have a look over both these quotes and let me know your thoughts/ if any changes are needed.
