Hi There,

I'm looking to get a new PC within the next ~6 months or so, mostly to take advantage of some of the great games due to come out late this year and in to 2019. I'm happy to wait a little if there's a major release of an updated component on the way.

This will be build number godknowswhat through you guys as each time I've been very impressed.

Budget ~$2.5k (excluding monitor) give or take depending on the advantages of suggestions you may have for improvement. No need for mouse/keyboard/speakers at this stage. Decently sized SSD for OS and a few resource hungry games, but also a large HDD for bulk media and less intensive games. I don't know if there's any benefit in having the OS on a smaller dedicated SSD.

This time around I'd also like to upgrade my monitor setup. I'm currently running two fairly standard 23" monitors, but want to look at a good quality curved gaming monitor. I'm not 100% sure on the size but probably no bigger than 34". Happy for some suggestions or feedback on this too. Intended on keeping one of the other monitors as a secondary, but not sure if I'll need it in the long run.

Brand preferences: Intel, nVidia

For reference, the previous build I got back in 2014 is pictured below. I reaaaaally like the case you guys suggested back then so would be keen to stick with something similar. I don't display the PC so no need for side window panels or LEDs inside the case.

Thanks for your help :)

Afternoon Taco,

I have quoted up the current day level system that you currently have (though with major improvements in performance)

I've stuck with the GTX1070 as this easily drive monitors up to QHD (Or 2k) comfortably and will be needed when you do upgrade to a larger monitor (with likely higher refresh rate.

Did you have any thoughts as to the resolution of your new monitor?

With your specs a 2k would be ideal, if you were to go to an ultradwide you will need a beefier card if you were planning on running higher settings.

2k 60hz http://www.computerloung...entview.asp?partid=30235

Ultrawide 75hz lower resolution http://www.computerloung...entview.asp?partid=28805

Thanks for that.

Hmm... I might need to adjust my price expectations. But there's still time to put some extra cash aside so that's alright for now. I'm happy to deviate from the 'spec' of my current PC if that helps open up more options for a better optimised system.

- The 250GB SSD I currently have is causing me a few headaches as I seem to get the OS and 2-3 games tops installed on it (with the games these days seeming to sit in the 60GB+ range...) so ideally would like to go higher this time, or put the OS on a standalone drive if that's a better option?

- RAM - I notice in my current system my RAM is the only thing that ever gets maxed, I'm thinking I should probably go for 16GB over 8GB?

Regarding the monitor, I'm still not 100% sure what I want here but would love to be able to run games at max settings initially. I notice a lot of the monitors had FreeSync, but given I'm likely to go with nVidia do they need to be Gsync instead? I'm not sure if the technology is cross compatible. I have no idea for the resolution either - happy to take suggestions based on your knowledge.

Sorry for being a little vague about what I want! I'm hoping to figure that out as part of this conversation :)

Afternoon Taco,

I have updated your order to include the larger SSD as well as doubling the size of the installed system memory.

Doing this however has resulted in lowering the GPU to a GTX1060 to stay closer to your budget.

With this setup running 1080p will be fine, a 2k monitor may be pushing the GPU though the rest of the system will be more than capable.

Looking better already!

Now... if I were to say I'm happy to raise the budget to $3k, or maybe even $3.5k at a stretch, what changes or suggestions would you have?

Morning Taco,

The only changes you would really make to this build is upgrade the GPU to maybe a GTX1070/ 1070ti if you are planning on running a 2k monitor.

The minor optional changes would be a larger cooler (D14 or D15) and maybe a larger power supply (750w) but that's more fine tuning then necessary.

Thanks Thomas,

I'm definitely looking at a 2k monitor, in fact the first one you linked looks quite nice.

Is there much benefit in going from the 1070Ti to the 1080?

I'm also curious about what Ultrawide gaming monitors you would recommend that have Gsync.

Afternoon Taco,

I would say the difference between the GTX1070ti and thew GTX1080 will be anywhere from 5-10 % depending on the game.

I'd have to agree with the aiming for a 2k screen as they offer the best balance of looks and performance (frame rates).

The X34 would likely be the best option to go for in regards to a 2k ultrawide the higher res does ten to demand a higher tier card though so I would recommened going for a GTX1080 or 1080ti if you end up pursuing that option.

Personally I much prefer the ultrawide 2ks though I did have to purchase a GTX1080ti to run games at high settings locking the 100Fps

The more I look in to it, the more I really want that X34...

So, could you please price the X34 and 1080Ti in the system and let me know where that sits. If I have to work backwards from there I can..

Thanks!

Morning Taco,

I have upgraded your GPU to the Strix GTX1080ti and added on the X34 monitor to your quote as requested.

Let me know your thoughts on the below quote.

Thanks Thomas,

Sorry for the late reply. It looks pretty good to me. Like I mentioned at the start I'm not looking to build straight away but needed to understand the anticipated costs so I can make sure I put enough money aside in advance.

I'll ping this thread again in a few months when I'm ready to go ahead with the build so that I can get the quote re-issued (I understand that stock availability may change etc.). Super excited for it though!!

Regards,

TACO
