Hi there,

This will be my first PC build with you guys (very excited!) and been doing a bit of research into what I am looking for, looking forward to some advice that you can give me to make a better decision with the build. Coming from a custom built i5-2500k with a sapphire radeon 6900 series back in 2011, it has served me well but its time for me to upgrade into 2018. First off price range is in excess of $4.5-5k+. I am okay if it goes over if the Pros out weigh the cons by a reasonable amount as I am a Game developer and am looking for a rig to last.

Starting off:

Processer: i7-8700k - Pretty much sold on the CPU as I wont multitask enough to use the AMD Ryzen Threadripper features and I dont need i9 its overkill.
GPU: 1080Ti - Must have, but I'm unsure what capacity on overclocking you guys can do with it, confused as on super/black editions etcs.. Thinking more along Rog Strix version though.
Motherboard: Tough decision here and am tossing up between Gigabyte Aorus gaming 7 and the Asus Maximus X Hero(hence the GPU choice for sync). Open to Suggestions if there are alternatives like the strix Z370-E, but I am leaning heavily towards X Hero atm.
SSD: Samsung 960 512/1TB - would like prices for both depending on budget.
Hard drive: Your choice, you guys know you stuff but only need 2TB ( possible expansion in future) maybe seagate barracuda?.
PSU: Looking for gold standard 850w - I do need some overhead for future expansion.
RAM: depending on motherboard sync up either G skillz or Corsair RGB 16GB (2x8gb) - 3200+MHZ
Cooling: Currently I am thinking over either the NZXT - Kraken X52/X62 (for budget reasons) or liquid like corsair H115i, but I have never experienced liquid cooling but been seeing some crazy cool stuff on your website for custom built ones. Plus the usual fans etc.
Windows 10 Home 64bit.

Took some time to work out the list, but open to suggestions and what prices you can do for the package.

Many thanks! and hope everyone at the computer lounge has had a great christmas and bring on the new year with new rigs :)

Regards,

Josh

Afternoon Alirean,

Please have a look at the below quote and let me know your thoughts.

Upgrading to the 1Tb 960 Pro would be an additional $300.

Hi there Thomas,

Thanks for the quick reply! Quote looks awesome.

Any price difference between a G.Skillz Trident Z 3200 version compared to a Corsair CMR16GX4M2C3200C16 Vengeance RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 as it is compatible with ASUS QVL. (overall the trident does look better, but they are taller in header space).
Upgrade PSU to Platinium version of same model, may as well.
Change case to NZXT H440 MID TOWER CASE 2015 EDITION - BLACK/RED
And lastly add in a Corsair Gaming K95 RGB Platinum Mechanical Keyboard - Cherry MX Speed - GunMetal (CH-9127114-NA)

Regards,

Josh

Morning Alirean,

I have updated your order with your requested changes.

Price wise we can't be 100% on the G.skill pricing as we will need to order in a new batch in the new year and with pricing on the rise for RAM I'm not optimistic it will be any cheaper than the CMR corsair Kits.

Im not in a rush as good builds take time and considering waiting then until you have a new batch of G.Skill Trident Z coming in the new year.
Also I may have an issue with the SSD as it shares an sata/M.2 with the motherboard. Will that pose much of an issue?

Morning Alirean,

That's not a problem I can requote all this closer to your time of purchase (as quotes are only valid for 7 days)

The M.2 will take 4 x the available PCI, so with one card you should still have a few spare sata ports.

If you are going to be using more than two SSDs just let me know and I can look into the configurations in a bit more depth for you.

Thanks heaps as well for the quote, i will be coming into the store nnext week to have a bit of a monitor shop for the set up as well and get re quoted then. For the case style though.. S340 elite vs corsair 470x as i do prefer the tempered glass look, any recommendations on which is better? OR do you have an ETA on the new fractal define R6 case that got released this week?

Afternoon Alirean,

Unfortunately, I don't have an ETA just yet.

Personally, I prefer the S340 Elite, I own one myself so I may be a little biased here.

I prefer the clean look whereas I think the Corsair case just has a bit too much going on and a bit too much glass.

My thoughts as well. Do you have much of an issue with the fan on the top side as i know there is no dust filter, and is it possible to get a magnetic filter for that fan slot?

Afternoon Alirean,

I have a low RPM fan exhausting out the top of my case which prevents the majority of dust coming in.

I haven't seen any dust filters for S340 though I would be interested myself in getting one as an extra layer of protection.

Afternoon Alirean,

Well what do you know, that looks very promising.

I will see if we can source that as it's Silverstone.
